In 2021, BBC Culture polled 206 TV experts from 43 countries in order to find the greatest TV show of the 21st Century.

As a UK TV critic, I was asked to contribute my own personal top ten, which was then absorbed into a collated top 100 list. The Wire won the top prize – and before you ask, The Sopranos premiered in 1999 so was ineligible.

Here is my own top ten below.

I agonised over this list for a long time and there are many shows I still feel guilty about leaving out. The big ones include Succession, Happy Valley, The Office (UK), Fleabag, Giri/Haji, The Good Fight, The Underground Railroad, Battlestar Galactica, Peep Show, Inside No. 9, Watchmen, Breaking Bad and Deadwood. Top tens are hard!

A list of who else voted and what they voted for can be found here.
